About Artech

Engaging with creative youth since 2005

“Andrew told me that when he grows up, he wants to be the Prime Minister of Canada. In that way he can cancel school and send all of the kids to Artech Camps all year round!
“I hope you can handle that!”  – Susan MacPhee (Andrew’s mom)

Create – Design – Articulate – Code – Develop – Animate – Dream

Artech is the Ultimate Creative Technology camp specializing in Game Design, Animation and Computer Programming for youth audiences ages 7 through teens. Founded in 2005, Artech has been running creative technology programs for more than 15 years.

In 2020, we are launched our newly developed virtual programs – fully interactive, teacher lead, and so much fun! With this new initiative we are able to reach kids virtually anywhere!

Our approach is STEAM powered!

You may be familiar with STEM pedagogy that fosters an early interest in Science, Technology, Engineering & Math. We put the A in STEM, giving Artech a STEAM powered approach.

STEAM uses Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and importantly the Arts, as access points for guiding inquiry, dialogue, creativity, and critical thinking.

Our Curriculum

Artech instructors craft highly dynamic and creative technology camps. We incorporate the creative arts to engage and encourage creative problem solving.

Future Focus

Whether they aspire to design games or work on the frontiers of AI development; whether they want to translate landscapes into living and moving artscapes – we have camps designed for tomorrow’s innovators!

We teach skills they just can’t get in school!

A Message from Artech’s Director

Ronnie Scullion, Director of Artech
BFA in Fine Arts, AIT Applied Information Technology (with Distinction)

Artech has been operating creative technology camps and programs for more than 15 years. We have gained a growing following at our in-person camps in Nova Scotia, which welcome new and returning campers each year!

For some years now we have thought about adding dynamic, interactive, virtual camps to compliment our in-person camps and a way to reach out to a wider global community! In 2020 we made that happen, largely in response to the pandemic. Each day has been a learning experience: our creative staff coming up with new and innovative ways to fully engage our participants. There are gains and losses to contend with remote learning. However, when the pandemic is over, we will be able to offer both virtual camps and programs, and on-site, in-person camps again!

On the plus side virtual programs have opened new doors, as we are able to reach kids and youth:

  • in remote areas
  • in different parts of Canada
  • in different countries
  • and those who are otherwise unable to attend our in-person programs.

It has been an enriching opportunity to date, allowing us to exchange ideas and information, and learn so much!

We are optimistic that what we will learn and experience in the coming months and years, will propel this world to a better, more inclusive and compassionate place!
